This week is a new beginning, and I must start to think seriously about what I should study next. This is actually a problem that has plagued me for a long time because I have always been unsure of the meaning or social value of my design. In the past, my research was basically for a certain technology or idea. For example, I want to make a fun game, and I want to connect Leap Motion and AR. I always hope that these projects have broader meanings, such as a game that can help children‘s education or online AR can provide an innovative experience. But these small projects are difficult to achieve such larger goals. My past design does not seem to be the three philosophical research methods mentioned in What is a ‘research question’ in design? So this week I am mainly reading this article and reflecting on it.

My original plan was to continue research on AR. In the last semester, I started to research related technologies based on the research in the first year review, including trying to read cell phone sensor information, AR/cross-platform LAN connection, and trying to connect AR with Leap Motion. These attempts are centered on the goal of providing new interactive methods for AR games. So it is time to study AR’s deep inspection function and AR Cloud to find new possibilities for online AR games. Limited by the inability to study the underlying technology of AR, I found that many technical limitations restrict some design ideas, which limit the current innovation of mobile AR.
My thought is that if such research is conducted, the value of this research may be an innovation to AR games, but is this can be a qualified design question? I’m not sure, because it seems that the question is not very specific. Based on reading this week, I will try to restructure my research question. It’s not easy, because the article mentions many points.
