Last week I picked up an acorn at school. This was the first time I observed acorn up close. Before that I didn’t know that there were oak trees in the school. So I adjusted the material of the acorn to make it more realistic. Although last week’s acorn looks more beautiful, I don’t think it is so smooth.

I basically completed the entire video this week, including parts of clover and abandoned forest

Approach

I made the model in Maya, and finished the diffuse map and roughness map in PS. Finally I made the material in UE4.

I also used Quixel Mixer to make forest terrain. This step is very easy and achieves good results.

After making all the shots and animations in ue4’s sequence, I exported the sequence frames to AE.

I have tested in AE for a long time to solve the problem that the number of frames does not correspond to the original resources. I still can’t correspond to the original frame number even I set the composite frame number. Finally I realized that the imported image sequence adopts the default setting of 30fps / s. After changing to 24fps / s, all the frame numbers can correspond.

I completed the transition in AE, using the lens blur effect to help the transition smooth during the fall.

I also made some effects in AE, I know some effects are easier to achieve in AE

For example: mask

I spent some time trying to make the effect of dust losing focus under the macro lens, but the CC particle that comes with AE cannot control the movement and generation of the particles well. I gave up on this effect when Trapcode Particular was not available.

(The static effect meets my needs but the movement is not good)

Finally, I adjusted the picture color. I chose to adjust the color in AE to better control the overall effect. So in UE4 I simply adjusted the exposure and indirect lighting colors to leave more toning space for AE.
I’m going to adjust the background music for the rest of the time, as the current bass seems to be insufficient.

Thinking

This project uses 4K texture, but because the lens is closer to the model, the mapping resolution is slightly insufficient. Film and television projects are more suitable for 8K textures.
