Last week was very busy and there was not much time left for this project.

I started to make a wood frame inside the room, and my main reference is based on this restoration map. Since I didn’t find information about the type of wood, I could only try to imitate the texture in the photo.

I modeled several pieces of wood for reproduction. Maria gave me a piece of wood as a reference before, so I made more details on the wood. After assembling the framework, I found that the number of faces of the model reached nearly 70,000. For the sake of optimization, I simplified the number of faces by half. Through practice, simplification on this model will not have too much impact on UV.

Last week Joe mentioned that there was smeared clay on the wall of hut, I found some references and changed the material of the wall.

In Mixer

I mixed the new material with straw using Mixer. But the final rendering is strange. So I just exported the dirt map and remixed it in Substance Painter.

At present, there are still some details that need to be adjusted.

On the other hand, I have been thinking about the relationship between the scene, the story, and the light according to the predetermined goal. I found some reference photos for the three scenes:

  1. Sacred scene.

This scene has poles, in addition to serving as the core of the whole village, another role is to calculate time. So I want a very well-lit effect and a sacred feel. It’s difficult to make this kind of complex light on VR, but I think we can try a simplified version, such as fake artificial light.

2. Family scene

I want to highlight a feeling of warmth and safety. Lighting such as bonfires and torches can naturally create this feeling. The combination with the cold night scene can make the picture colors not too monotonous and warm.

3. Wild scene

I want to highlight a feeling of cruel nature. So I want a cooler, high-contrast hue. This scene seems to highlight the surrounding wall to block the outside danger, so I have to compare it with the feeling of the warm scene

Next week I will try to complete all the models and adjust the light and color in different scenes.
